Featured Ministry: GLOBAL MARITIME MINISTRIES, New Orleans, LA, USA

Global Maritime Ministries began as a ministry to seafarers visiting the Port of New Orleans. In 1963, New Orleans Baptist Seamen's Service was founded. For the next thirty-five years, this ministry continued to grow and expand. Seafarers from over one hundred forty countries have had the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel.

In January 1999, the name was changed to “Global Maritime Ministries, Inc.” This new name better reflected what this ministry had become — a “port” ministry. Not only is this a ministry to seafarers, but it is also a ministry to longshoremen, agents, security officers, truck drivers, and other port employees. We became the “Port Chaplains.”

Our ministry has also grown beyond the city of New Orleans. We now have two ministry centers. One is in New Orleans and the other is forty miles up Mississippi river in Reserve, Louisiana. The center in Reserve serves the Port of South Louisiana.
New Orleans is now the busiest port in the world. Each year, close to three hundred thousand seafarers pass through the port. There are also ninety thousand jobs related to the port. The opportunities to share the Gospel are limitless. As seafarers and truckers accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, they spread the Gospel as they travel around the country and around the world. God has literally put the world at our doorstep.

Global Maritime Ministries is a non-profit organization. We are supported by the direct gifts of churches, associations, and individuals from twenty different states. Concerned Christians, like yourself, provide for the needs of this ministry. Because of you, we are able to provide this ministry, give Bibles, and share Christ with seafarers from one hundred countries annually.
